Summary of the year
I'm reflecting back on what the horses have taught me this year
Loads!! How many horses have I started this year?? 4 are now in training and 2 I am riding - another one to start on this weekend and another after Christmas.
I have handled some lovely youngstock by Danasinga, Drama Critic, Rusty Spur, Thorn Park Sandtrap, Stark South, Volksraad ...errr and I forget the breeding of the rest... actually they were all my darlings!
Right now I have a lovely 14hh grey arab x stationbred pony, Cole who I am riding for sale in the New Year and WOW I am enjoying the change!
I have a big offer on my mare Phoenix which I am considering and have her 1/2 sister Romance nearing a year old and of course QH Dash who is dogging Cole (the pony) out in the swamp paddock and teaching him some manners.
I am sporting a few bruises - 1 on the elbow from a passing kick yesterday and a nice one from a stomp last week on my foot.
Today I was waiting around for the farrier all day (such is life) and came home to grub thistles and pull ragwort.
Hard work - yep that's what the horses teach me - pulled muscles and wind and rain, sun, mud and dust, horse poo and sweat!! hehehe - what a job, what a life! Only for horses.
Blessed horses, I think I would be a very lazy person without them.
2 weeks ago I had a mare who kicked a big hole in the float door - what a horrific sight! The dramas that go with the industry have to be handled I guess, along with the rewards - not all roses.
So I look at the ups and downs and learn to stay humble and see how many horses I have taken for granted and got off lightly and some I was very dubious of and was pleasantly surprised.
Ahhh well - it's all good, we are all in one piece - too many horses, not enough grass...not enough money - same old story!
Summer is here and riding is fun - the beach here I come!
Hey - you all enjoy your holidays and have a Happy and Safe Christmas and New Year.
All the best - see you next year!
Angela
